3 Members of West Ham United are Positive for the Corona Virus, Including David Moyes

DBasia.news – West Ham United have received bad news from the club’s internal affairs. The Hammers announced that manager, David Moyes, and two other players have been positive for COVID-19.

The club received information regarding the positiveness of the three members of the team, while preparing to host Hull City in the third round of the English League Cup, Wednesday (23/9/2020). The match against the League One team was successfully won by West Ham by a score of 5-1.

In addition to Moyes, two other players who were positive are 23-year-old Issa Diop and 24-year-old midfielder, Josh Cullen. All three showed no symptoms and were subsequently asked to perform independent isolation.

“The manager and the two players immediately left the stadium and returned home,” the club said in a statement quoted by the BBC.

This situation adds to the challenge for West Ham, who started their journey in the Premier League this season with defeats in the first two games. The London club are 0-2 from Newcastle United and 1-2 from Arsenal.

Those results has made David Moyes the first to be dismissed this season. The situation did not help him as he was unable to accompany the team for at least 10 days.

“At 18:20 we suddenly received information from our doctor and head of physiotherapy, that three tests showed positive results, the manager and two players. We have been in contact so far as we are in the same stadium area as David,” said Assistant Moyes, Alan Irvine, who led the team against Hull.

“We were in the stadium two hours before the match. We were surprised by the news, we had undergone so many tests before and nothing was positive. But we were very compliant with the protocol from the beginning, the medical team was very aware of what was going on and we follow all the protocols, and even now we will, “he continued.

The news has made Hull consult with the organizers of the English League Cup tournament regarding the continuation of the match. But the division three team was satisfied with the way West Ham followed the rules and protocols, so the match was still held.

Previously, the Leyton Orient vs Tottenham Hotspur duel was delayed due to a positive case of the corona virus. Several Leyton players were known to have been infected with the virus.
