DBasia.news – During this 2018 World Cup, there were some excellent counter-attack goals. The most phenomenal, of course, Nacer Chadli’s goal when Belgia defeated Japan during 16 round knockout.
Left 0-2 from Japan, Belgia’s coach Roberto Martinez noticed the substitute players as new energy for his team following the loss. Martinez decided to enter Chadli to the squad. No one predicted that the West Bromwich wing player would score one of the best goals in the tournament, during injury time. Full energy, Chadly ran from the defensive line and scored the winning goal.
Of all time, a lot of goals scored in the counter-attack scheme. But only a few can be equalized with Belgia’s third goals to Japan’s net.
Here are three phenomenal counter-attack goals along the World Cup history.
Emmanuel Sanon (Haiti vs Italy, 1974)
1974 was the only moment when Haiti joined the World Cup. Haiti had to go home early with no point and penetrated 14 goals.
But, Haiti went home with sweet memory by their success in breaking through Italy’s net. The goal was scored by a beautiful counter-attack move when the score was still 0-0. Sweet breakthrough passing from Philippe Vorbe made Emmanuel Sanon skyrocketed.
Detached from the control from Luciano Spinosi, Sanon was calmly passing keeper Dino Zoff and kicked the ball to the post. This goal broke Zoff’s 1.142 minutes flawless record.
“The Italian defense is too slow for me,” said Sanon before the game. He proved it.
Edinho (Brasil vs Poland, 1986)
Brasil’s second goal to Polandia during 1986 World Cup came from Samba team’s defensive line. In defensive mode, Brasil’s defender attacked from what seemed uncontrolled at the beginning.
But, Careca accepted the ball from the left side. Careca pushed forward with the guard. When Careca was like trapped in the dead-end, Edinho came from behind and received heel passing from Careca. By his trick, Edinho deceived Poland’s defensive line and scored a goal inevitably anticipated by keeper Jozef Mlynarczyk.
Gheorghe Hagi (Romania vs Argentina, 1994)
Romania’s victory from Argentina during 16 round knockout of the 1994 World Cup was one classy counter-attack ever. Not just one, but two best goals in World Cup history of all time. Illie Dumitrescu scored the first goal. This was a goal presented by great teamwork.
The second goal happened in the second round by Gheorghe Hagi, the perfect example of high-class counter-attack. Dumitrescu as the supplier ran from his area. Seemed to slow down the game, he sent deadly passing that was executed perfectly by Hagi.
