DBasia.news – RB Salzburg’s match against Bayern Munich in the first leg of the 2021-2022 Champions League left a deep impression on Chukwubuike Junior Adamu. The 20-year-old forward made one of his dreams come true.
In the match which took place at Red Bull Arena Salzburg, Thursday (17/2) morning WIB, Salzburg successfully held Munich to a 1-1 draw. This result keeps the chance for the Austrian representative to advance to the quarter-finals.
Salzburg started the game well. Matthias Jaissle’s team did not hesitate to press against one of the favorites to win.
Unfortunately after entering the 12th minute, Salzburg were forced to make substitutions. Noah Okafor was pulled out due to an injury.
Not having many options, Jaissle finally put Adamu in. But this moment turned out to be a momentum for the Nigerian player to realize his dream.
Nine minutes after entering the field, Adamu successfully broke the deadlock. His curling shot missed Sven Ulreich.
It was Adamu’s first goal in the Champions League. No wonder he celebrated it quite expressively.
The goal also made Adamu carve a record. He became the first supersub to score the fastest goal since 2005.
He followed in the footsteps of Thierry Henry who also scored a goal in the 21st minute when he played as Arsenal’s supersub against Slavia Prague, October 2005.
Interestingly, Adamu apparently already had a hunch of being able to score a goal against Munich. He said this after the game.
“The goal was unbelievable. It was exactly what I dreamed of yesterday,” said Adamu on UEFA’s official website.
“I’m very proud, so let’s continue with the same approach. It’s not over yet.”
Adamu’s goal in the end failed to bring Salzburg to victory. Munich was able to equalize at the end of the match through Kingsley Coman.
But Adam didn’t care. He is confident of being able to help Salzburg to provide the same resistance at home to Munich.
“We have a great team. We will continue our journey and give everything in the second leg,” he concluded.
