AC Milan drew against Salernitana

DBasia.news – Stefano Pioli was upset when AC Milan failed to secure three points at home to Salernitana in the 2022-2023 Serie A follow-up week. The Rossoneri, who played at the San Siro, had to be content with sharing points with their guests, after winning first through Olivier Giroud, but then Boulaye Dia equalized.

The players considered Pioli did not work well together, especially when defending. In fact, Giroud as a goalscorer didn’t perform well in this match.

“We should have played at a higher level and we conceded too much space to their goal,” Pioli told DAZN.

“We know how to read the situation better. It could have been avoided, we should have done better. We were also a bit unlucky in some situations.

“We didn’t defend as a unit, we were more arbitrary after their goal, and didn’t control the game,” he explained.

After Milan conceded, Giroud was replaced by Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The Italian manager explained that a change had to be made because Giroud was not looking his best.

“He scored a great goal, but his performance wasn’t great. I hope substitutes will have a different impact,” said Pioli.

“It’s about positioning and principles, not systems,” insisted Pioli.

“A team needs two things to defend well: everyone has to be available and players have to help each other. When there are these two things, we can work well. We always play as a team. It’s a shame because we wanted to make the most of this opportunity.

“If you look at their goals, three players not catching up after a throw-in, that should never have happened. We were too tense and too open. We will watch it again and make our judgment.”
