AC Milan Has One Year Remaining with Ibrahimovic

DBasia.news – Zlatan Ibrahimovic has signed a new contract at AC Milan, after the club won the 2021/22 Scudetto.

The 40-year-old player has been a key player for the Rossoneri since returning to the San Siro for a second spell in January 2020.

Ibrahimovic officially became a free agent on June 30, and speculation has circulated regarding his future following revelations that he had been playing without the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee for the previous six months.

The veteran forward is not expected to return to his fitness level until 2023, but that has not prevented Milan from bringing him back to the club for another season. Ibrahimovic has committed to a new 12-month contract at Milan, which expires on June 30, 2023.

The deal will reportedly have the Sweden international player pocket a salary of 1.5 million euros, which could increase if he hits performance-based targets.

Milan have released an official statement confirming the new terms for Ibrahimovic, which reads: “AC Milan is delighted to announce the renewal of Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s contract until 30 June 2023. The Swedish forward will continue to wear the number 11 jersey.”

When will Ibrahimovic retire?

It remains to be seen whether the 2022/23 season will be the last of Ibrahimovic’s illustrious career as he looks to bounce back from a serious injury.

The former Inter, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United striker, who famously claimed he “is a lion, not a man” in 2017, spoke about retiring rumors last March.

“I will definitely keep playing as long as possible, as long as I can get results and not suffer,” said Ibrahimovic. “I want to end my career with no regrets, so I have to make the most of my time.”
