AC Milan was held to a draw by Udinese, Stefano Pioli was furious about the accusation that Udinese players scored a goal with his hands, after his team was held by Udinese 1-1 in the 2021-2022 Serie A continued match, at the San Siro Stadium, Saturday (26/2) early morning WIB.
Milan took the lead through Rafael Leao’s goal in the 29th minute. However, Destiny Udogie equalized to make it 1-1 in the 66th minute.
Udinese’s goal received strong protests from Milan players. Because, before the goal, the ball is considered to have touched the hand of the Udinese player first. However, the referee was unmoved by his decision.
“Without a doubt, it was a clear handball in front of goal,” Pioli told DAZN.
“Udinese players scored with their hands. Frankly, there’s no way VAR didn’t see it. So it was a serious mistake that proved to be decisive in the final result.”
“It is true that we did not put in a great performance. However, the goal should have been disallowed.”
Pioli understood his players were furious because Udinese’s goal was still approved. According to him, the referee made a mistake.
“It was a ball that hit the hand. VAR is there to avoid mistakes like that. So it’s unacceptable and it’s not the first time we’ve had it.”
“I’m just saying this isn’t the first time we’ve been punished by such an obvious incident. Because goals were scored by hand.”
With that result, Milan remains at the top of the standings with 57 points from 27 matches. Milan is two points ahead of Inter Milan who is in second position.
