Andre Schurrle Announces Retirement from the Football World

DBasia.news – Former Chelsea striker Andre Schurrle has officially decided to end his football career at the age of 29.

In a statement quoted by German newspaper Der Spiegel, Schurrle said he was often lonely and felt that he was no longer suitable for a career in the football industry.

“You must always play a certain role in order to survive in this business, otherwise you will lose your job and you will not get a new (job),” Schurrle said.

Schurrle was last listed as a Borussia Dortmund player. The second-ranked Bundesliga club itself has canceled the player’s contract by mutual agreement Wednesday 15 July.

Schurrle began his professional career at Mainz 05 which he defended in 2009 to 2011, then played for Bayer Leverkusen (2011-2013), and then crossed to England to play for Chelsea (2013-2015), before returning to Germany with Wolfsburg (2015-2016 ).

The player who helped Germany win the 2014 World Cup was brought in by Dortmund from VfL Wolfsburg in 2016. But he failed to secure a place in the first team so that in the 2018/2019 season was loaned to Fulham, and in the 2019/2020 season was loaned to Russian club Spartak Moscow.

In the 2014 World Cup final, Schurrle’s cross in injury time continued Mario Goetze to give Germany a 1-0 win over Argentina.

In the national team, Schurrle has recorded 57 appearances with a collection of 22 goals, including two goals when Germany humiliated Brazil 7-1 in the 2014 World Cup semifinals. His last international appearance occurred in 2017, and in the last four years SChurrle was only able to record 51 appearances and eight goals for Dortmund.
