DBasia.news – Scotland captain, Andy Robertson expressed his disappointment after his side were forced to bow to Ukraine in the Qatar 2022 World Cup semi-final play-off qualifier on Thursday (2/6) WIB, shortly after Liverpool failed to win in both competitions.
Steve Clarke’s side crashed out after a subpar performance in Glasgow against Ukraine, playing their first game since being attacked by Russia in February.
The disappointment came after Robertson also failed in the hunt for the English Premier League and in the Champions League final with the Reds.
“Personally, of course these are the toughest ten days of my football career,” Robertson told a Scottish news conference.
“Emotionally, mentally, physically, everything. So it’s not good.”
“To be honest, I would have faced it myself, I would have gone and thought about it myself. But I was heartbroken with the players there. Obviously, I really wanted them to go to the World Cup and play on the biggest stage, but unfortunately we failed.”
“But we have to be ready when that happens. As with international football, people get older and you never know when your last chance will be. That’s why it hurts so much.”
Scotland must now contain their disappointment and prepare to feature in the 2022/23 UEFA Nations League.
They will play home and away against Armenia at the end of the month, with a trip to face the Republic of Ireland in between. Meanwhile, Ukraine will face Wales in the 2022 World Cup play-off final qualifier in Cardiff.
