Antonio Mirante Frustrates Inter Milan

DBasia.news –  Antonio Mirante, the Italian goalkeeper became the hero for AS Roma when playing against Inter Milan in the Serie A match.

For the first time this season Inter failed to break the opponent’s goal in all competitions. Both teams released two kicks on target in the match which ended in a goalless draw. Inter’s two golden opportunities were generated by Romelu Lukaku and Matias Vecino.

However, both opportunities were thwarted by Mirante, who was originally a reserve goalkeeper. Conte without hesitation called the 36-year-old goalkeeper as Man of the Match who failed to bring his team to victory.

“If you look at the match as a whole, Mirante Man of the Match and Roma have never really kicked off on target, so possession doesn’t mean a lot at that point,” Conte told Sky Sport Italia.

“We run in practice not to risk against a great Roma team. These are games where you should score, because we have a chance to score and we force them to make mistakes with our pressure.”

“We know that Rome is great at passing the ball, so it is not easy, but we did well tonight and forced (opponents) to make errors. As I said, their goalkeeper, Mirante Man of the Match. We created chances to score goals.”

Paulo Fonseca, Roma coach, also praised Mirante’s slick performance that helped his team keep a clean sheet. Not only praising Mirante, Fonseca also praised Roma duo defender, Gianluca Mancini and Chris Smalling.

“Gianluca Mancini and Chris Smalling are safe at the back, but the whole team defended well. We intend to defend by keeping the ball. Mirante is a great goalkeeper, he performed well tonight,” concluded Fonseca.
