Areola, the Main Goalkeeper of PSG

Recently, Areola became the star when France national team played draw against Germany 0-0 in the UEFA Nations League. In this chance, Areola was the starter instead of the goalkeeper who delivered France to be 2018 World Cup champion, Hugo Lloris.

Thanks to the positive performances in recent matches, Tuchel indicated Areola will be PSG’s number one goalkeeper instead of Buffon. “Yes I chose. The decision is not final but I told Alphonse that he was in my opinion in pole position to be number 1,” Tuchel said.

“He comes from the academy. PSG is everything for him. And he absolutely wants to prove himself to PSG. This is a situation that must be respected and capitalised on. We must be proud to have players of this nature,” the Germany coach said.

However, Tuchel insisted that Buffon is the prominent figure in PSG for the future. Apparently, the Italian goalkeeper is a legend and idol of Areola. Tuchel admitted that he gave the notice to Buffon regarding his status in the team.

“Gigi is not just a player on the bench. On a daily basis, he is a player who has a very big influence on the team, he played brilliantly against Guingamp for example, he saved us in the second half, he is on the bench because Alphonse needs to take minutes,” Tuchel emphasized.
