Arrigo Sacchi: Inter’s playing style is like the 60s, Milan are more modern

DBasia.news – Former Italy coach, Arrigo Sacchi assesses Inter’s style of play has fallen far behind at the elite level of international football compared to its city rivals, Milan.

Milan and Inter will go head to head at the top of the Serie A standings. Currently, Inter are only two points behind the Rossoneri who are at the top of the standings. Inter can replace their brother if they win in the postponed match against Bologna.

The atmosphere has heated after Arrigo Sacchi issued a controversial statement. He compared the tactics of Milan and Inter. According to him, Il Diavolo Rosso is much more modern.

“Milan are not the strongest team. However, they are the closest to the spirit of European football. Together with Atalanta, they are more international,” said Sacchi in Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Milan have a team spirit that only a handful of teams can display. On the other hand, Inter have a much stronger squad. However, the football they play is still stuck in the 1960s.”

“Inter played that football well. However, it is an old-fashioned style and it doesn’t help them at international level,” stated Sacchi.

More specifically, Sacchi thinks Simone Inzaghi needs to make changes in terms of tactics. That way, Inter will improve even more on an international level.

“Inzaghi needs to make another step if he is to enter modern football and develop. I think his aspiration is to win at international level, as the Italian national team does. They play innovative and brave football.”

Indeed, if you look at achievements, Inter Milan are much better than Milan in recent years. In fact, at an international level, namely the Champions League, the Nerazzurri spoke more than Milan. In addition, at the last meeting of the two teams, Inter defeated Milan with a landslide score of three goals without reply.
