Arsenal Finds Difficulty in Bringing in Wilfried Zaha

Wilfried Zaha

DBasia.news –  Arsenal needed to shop for players in the transfer market this summer to patch a number of deficiencies in several lines, moreover they failed to penetrate the Champions League zone. But until now, all the names of new players have only been rumors.

Arsenal were supposed to be preoccupied with two transfer operations: holding Lucas Torreira, targeted by Marco Giampaolo, former Torreira coach at Sampdoria, then also trying to bring in Kieran Tierney from Celtic.

The problem is, Arsenal cannot move freely in the transfer market because of restrictions on funds from management. Reportedly, Unai Emery’s care team was only given funds of 45 million pounds to spend this summer.

The fund is clearly very small amid player price inflation. Arsenal must sell some of their players before recruiting new players. Arsenal’s complicated situation was also experienced by Crystal Palace wing forward, Wilfried Zaha.

Quoted from BBC Sport, the 26-year-old player had no objection to leaving and joining Arsenal. However, the transfer price was priced at 80 million pounds from Palace – more than Arsenal’s spending.

Zaha can increase Arsenal’s chances of entering the Champions League zone next season. He had strengthened Manchester United in mid-2013-2015, however, failing to answer fans’ high expectations and eventually returning to Palace.

“the failure to enter the Champions League zone limits their budget to around 45 million pounds, meaning they have to increase spending through selling players and can tempt Palace to sell Zaha,” said David Ornstein, BBC Sport journalist.

Arsenal does have to be more courageous to “gamble” in the transfer market this summer if they want to cut the distance with rival teams. If not, Unai Emery will have the same fate as Arsene Wenger in the past few seasons: surrender to the squad available due to limited spending on players.

Wilfried Zaha’s chance to head to Arsenal: 35%

If management still tends to be stingy to give Emery funds, then Zaha’s chances of heading to Arsenal are very unlikely to occur. Moreover, Palace was allegedly going to lose Aaron Wan-Bissaka who left for Manchester United.
