DBasia.news – In the 2022 summer transfer market, Arsenal are still very active in recruiting players ahead of the 2022-2023 season.
Mikel Arteta’s team have brought in Marquinhos (winger), Matt Turner (goalkeeper), Fabio Vieira (attacking midfielder) and striker for 45 million pounds, Gabriel Jesus was recruited from Manchester City.
Their movement was not over yet. Edu as Arsenal’s Director of Sport is still looking for new players. Recently they have been linked with Lisandro Martinez and the search for a midfielder has led to Youri Tielemans, the Leicester City midfielder.
Tielemans (25 years old) has a contract until 2023 at Leicester and has been playing in the Premier League since 2019. He is Arsenal’s priority, but Paul Merson, an ex-Arsenal player and football pundit, thinks Arsenal should sign Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. What is the reason?
“Youri Tielemans would be a good fit at Arsenal if James Ward-Prowse took the simple option and stayed at Southampton,” Merson wrote in the DailyStar.
“But I said before that Arsenal should have come for him. The problem is, if he stays at Southampton, maybe he doesn’t have ambitions? Tielemans from Leicester would be a good fit for Arsenal. He would be a worthy alternative. But Sergej Milinkovic-Savic is the player I want.”
“If Arsenal sign one of those two, they have a big transfer. Now more than ever, Arsenal need a top-class midfielder to compete with the best. And I think Savic is a fun player. Truly a top player. The way he played for Lazio last season, I personally think he is the best midfield player in Italy.”
“I know Manchester United have been linked with him in the past but why is there no club lining up waiting to sign the Serbian player, I don’t know. I think a lot of clubs are missing tricks.”
“The problem with Tielemans is that he plays in the Premier League. He already has the knowledge. He’s proven. And Arsenal don’t have time to train new players (to adapt).”
Milinkovic-Savic is years older than Tielemans and he has a contract until 2024 with Lazio. Last season he scored 11 goals and provided 12 assists in 47 games across all competitions for Maurizio Sarri’s side.
