DBasia.news – Since being appointed as FIFA Global Football Development, Arsene Wenger, who is actually a former Arsenal manager, has continued to try to evolve football with new rules.
The Frenchman originally had the idea of changing the offside rule to give the striker an advantage, but the Corona virus pandemic delayed the application of the new rule.
Wenger, who has coached Arsenal for 22 years, follows the development of football, which he considers to be far different from previous generations. He saw the current youth all moving quickly, being impatient.
No doubt there have been ideas that came from him besides the offside rule, this time regarding the throw-in rule that can be changed to a kick-in. The goal? Reduces the chance of wasting game time.
“Well, with the rules, there isn’t much room to change, maybe you can give the striker a bigger advantage in the offside law? They are testing it at the moment,” said Wenger.
“We were stopped because of Covid, many junior team championships were cancelled.
“There are two big time-wasters at the moment, throw-ins and free-kicks, and also a few goal-kicks as when you play now in the box.
“The goal is to make the game more spectacular and faster, and maybe with a throw-in you can play with your feet, but in the five-second limit for example, things like that.”
“But it has to be tested and then it has to be accepted by the IFAB. So we saw a lot of things, but there’s not much else you can change.”
Wenger also stressed the need to adapt to the latest generation, which he said was impatient, aka everything was fast-paced with technological advances.
“But it’s important we make the game faster. The younger generation is impatient and we see it with the habit of those who are 12 to 18 years old, they no longer go and watch television and watch football for 90 minutes. Everything is on the phone. So we may have to adapt.”
