DBasia.news –  Olympique Marseille suffered another defeat when they were eliminated from the French League Cup on Wednesday by Monaco with a score of 1-2, just days after they lost 0-4 to PSG in Ligue 1.

With just one win in their last seven matches, the pressure was on coach Andre Villas-Boas and being eliminated from the League Cup made it worse after only seventh in the league standings with 11 points behind defending champions PSG in the title race.

“The first half was embarrassing and we held talks at halftime. We said this was impossible and it was incredible comparing the first half with the second round,” Villas-Boas said.

“We can accept defeat from PSG, given their quality but not like this against Monaco.

“I want to win the cup, the team too. It’s a shame because the fans were there for us, from the first minute to the last. Now, we have to give something to repay them.”

Despite making seven changes from the team that started the 1-0 win over Nantes last weekend, Monaco coach Leonardo Jardim still has the strength to beat Marseille.

Both of Monaco’s goals came in the first half.

The striker was lent Jean-Kevin Augustin opened the scoring in the 25th minute through a cross Ruben Aguilar. Aguilar added a goal a second five minutes before the interval, Marseille gained a consolation goal in the 77th minute when Benjamin Lecomte netted the ball into his net. there will be no chance for Marseille this weekend when they have to welcome the team in third place Lille at the Stade Velodrome.
