Associations need to be aggressive to get supporters

DBasia.news – State football associations and clubs need to find new formulas in an effort to bring back the interest of local league supporters to step foot into the stadium.

Football Association Selangor (FAS) secretary-general Dr Johan Kamal Hamidon explains the main factors contributing to the problem, including the deterioration of team performance and direct online broadcast facilities.

Refusing to point fingers against others, Johan admits that state associations including the FAS themselves need to improve their weaknesses in management aspects and provide a stronger team to attract supporters.

“FAS is very open to supporters, we are here for them. In the past, management was not very open, but in the era of Raja Muda Selangor, Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah (FAS President) was different, “said Johan.

“We want to hear from our fans, we do not mind them criticisms or something else. We will accept open heartedly and want to understand what concerns they are facing. ”

Yesterday, the NSTP Sports reported that fans should change the mentality of the ‘random supporters’ to ensure that the Malaysia Cup which is also the oldest tournament in the local football scene has not lost its series.

The number of supporters to the stadium was in critical condition after six of the eight races in the first Malaysian Cup games recorded at only below 3,000 spectators.

Meanwhile, Perak Football Association (PAFA) secretary-general, Abd Aziz Yeop Jamaluddin, said the new initiative to attract spectators to the stadium could only be fully implemented for next season’s match.

“This year is too late, but we are heading in that direction. So next year is the best time for us to rejuvenate the supporters’ hearts to the stadium, “said Aziz.

“There are many things we have to look into, especially in the selection of new players who can attract the audience. But now, we still have hardcore fans who are always behind the team.

“I also believe the number of supporters will definitely increase when the Malaysia Cup enters the knockout round.”
