DBasia.news – Barcelona have made an offer for the transfer of Robert Lewandowski, with the Spanish giants now awaiting for Bayern Munich’s response.
The Polish international striker has made no secret of the fact that, at 33 years old, he still wants to take on a new challenge outside of Germany after 12 successful years with Borussia Dortmund and the reigning Bundesliga champions.
Interest from Barca first surfaced in the spring when it emerged that the two-time FIFA award-winning player was considering a move. After just being a rumor, now there is an official approach from the Blaugrana.
Laporta is reluctant to focus on how big the chances of their success in signing Lewandowski are, but he does hope to make a big name in his second term at Camp Nou.
He told reporters of Lewy’s potential transfer: “Barca will be 125 years old and there are several clubs with a history like ours.”
“We respect Bayern. You know that we have made an offer for him [Lewandowski] and we are waiting for an answer. Let’s see if it is positive. We appreciate the player’s efforts.”
While looking for loopholes to sign Lewandowski, plans to sell several players are also being discussed by Barca.
France defender Clement Lenglet is one of those already closing in on leaving Camp Nou, with Tottenham Hotspur soon to finalize a loan deal for the 27-year-old player.
Sporting director Jordi Cruyff said: “Lenglet’s departure is imminent. We will make it official when everything is decided.”
“Our job is to give the coach as many weapons as possible so that he uses the weapons he deems appropriate. Build a competitive squad that makes the coach think.”
Apart from Lenglet, Samuel Umtiti is also predicted to leave because Barcelona have strengthened their defense by bringing in Andreas Christensen from Chelsea for free.
He joins Eric Garcia and Ronald Araujo in Xavi’s squad, while Laporta insists there will remain a role in Catalunya for 35-year-old World Cup winner, Gerard Pique.
“He obviously wants to have a good season,” Laporta said of a veteran at his club.
“From a technical point of view, the coach will judge what he has to do, but personally he told me that he wants to perform at a good level. He will play a role in bringing in new players like him as captain.”
