DBasia.news – Barcelona’s problems did not end immediately after completing the transfer of Ferran Torres from Manchester City. Torres (21 years old) has not been able to play as Barcelona have not been able to register him in LaLiga.
That’s a unique situation. Barca have already spent 55 million euros plus a bonus of 10 million euros to sign Torres from Man City, making him Xavi Hernandez’s first signing at Barcelona. Barca have not been able to play Torres who has not been registered with LaLiga.
In fact, Barca must sell players first before being able to register Torres so that Barca’s financial condition is more balanced. Xavi could not talk much about Torres’ condition, but personally he praised the quality of the former Valencia player.
“Ferran Torres is a spectacular signing, both as a player and as a person,” said Xavi.
“He has just come back from injury, he has fantastic commitment, he will give us a lot, I have no doubts about that. He can play in different positions, I’m thrilled with the efforts the club has put in to get him.”
One of the problems that we are trying to solve is the issue of Ousmane Dembele’s contract which expires at the end of the season. Xavi hopes Dembele will sign a new contract with a reduced salary until the club can register Torres.
“We will see how the salary limit situation is, if possible soon. There must be a player leaving. If we get (Ousmane) Dembele to re-sign his contract and lower his salary it will allow us to sign Torres and we hope that can happen.”
“It’s a negotiation but the agent is challenging. I still have hope that he will stay.”
“At Barcelona we have a clear position and we are still in the process, it’s not over. We have to wait. I’ve spoken with (Dembele) again and I think it’s possible and I hope Ousmane will try to stay. He has a fantastic offer, but there are always trade-offs.”
“I hope he can stay because he is a player who can make a difference and could be the best footballer in the world in his position. This is a real opportunity for him and he shouldn’t miss it.”
“I don’t think he could be in a happier place than here. Barcelona is the best club in the world, the sporting project is more important than the economy and I have told him. That’s why I hope,” explained Xavi.
