Barcelona would benefit if Depay was swapped for Firmino

DBasia.news – Since joining Liverpool in 2015, Roberto Firmino has sparked interest. One team who is interested in him is Barcelona.

According to Sport’s report, the second club is believed to be deliberating on Firmino’s swap with former Manchester United striker, Memphis Depay. Incidentally, Liverpool are attracted by the Dutch striker.

Liverpool and Barca are said to be considering this swap to be realized in January next year. Los Blaugrana have no objection in giving up Depay, who just signed from Olympique Lyon in the summer of 2021. Both players have contracts that will expire in June 2023.

However, a number of pundits and Liverpool fans assume that if the above scenario materializes, Barca will be benefited while the Reds would lose.

The reason is, in Firmino’s current situation, he is still considered one of the vital players

Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp and has played a lot for the Merseyside club and formed a scary trio with Sadio Mane-Mohamed Salah.

In recent seasons, Firmino’s influence over time has slowly evaporated with the arrival of Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz. However, the Brazilian striker is still considered an active player.

This season, Firmino’s record is quite good. Of the five Premier League matches, he has scored 3 goals and 3 assists.

Klopp often praises Firmino’s role. The manager once said: “Bobby is a complete footballer. A football team is like an orchestra, you have different players for different instruments. Some of them are fuller than others, but all are important for the rhythm of the team.”

Bobby plays something like 12 instruments in our orchestra. He is vital. We also played well without him but I of course want him on the pitch and if you look at the numbers [Firmino’s record] I’m happy to have him on the pitch,” Klopp added.

As Darwin Nunez has yet to show his ability in the Premier League, a change in the line-up of Liverpool’s front line is believed to pose a big risk.

After they had a bad start to the season, only picking up 9 points from 6 Premier League games, the Reds were deemed to need Firmino’s presence.
