DBasia.news – Bayer Leverkusen decided to quarantine midfielder, Nadiem Amiri after coming into contact with a patient infected with Covid-19.
Leverkusen said the 23-year-old midfielder had brief personal contact with someone who has the coronavirus and has been separated from the squad. Ahead of the Europa League top 16 second leg tie against Rangers, Leverkusen held a 3-1 lead after winning in Glasgow, before the competition was suspended in March due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Amiri collected three caps for the German national team in 2019. If he reaches the quarter-finals of the Europa League, meeting Inter Milan or Getafe on Monday (9/8), Leverkusen will return to play without Amiri.
Leverkusen Football Director, Rudi Voeller praised Amiri, as the player immediately told the club regarding the possibility of him being infected even though the players were tested regularly. “This procedure demonstrates the hygienic approach we are taking and that players are sensitive to the coronavirus issue,” Voeller said.
He said Nadiem’s gesture was an example and an important thing. “Especially when looking at the number of people infected in Germany, this is an example of a serious and responsible approach to this pandemic.”
So far, Germany has recorded 211,281 cases of Covid-19 infection, with the death toll of 9,156 people.
