DBasia.news – Bayern Munchen CEO, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, admitted that he was surprised by Juventus decision to get Cristiano Ronaldo in a high transfer fee. Rummenigge scoffed about the transfer.
Juventus made Cristiano Ronaldo as the most expensive player in Italy. The Portugal national team captain came from Real Madrid with 100 million europrice tag.
The amount excludes the player’s salary, 30 million euro (Rp505 billion) each season. With four-season-contract, Juventus will pay Cristiano Ronaldo 120 million euro.
The spending made Juventus criticized by some football experts. They think La Vecchia Signora spent too much money on a player with age like Cristiano Ronaldo.
Rummenigge was one of them. However, he could understand Juventus decision to recruit Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid.
I was really surprised that Andrea Agnelli spent all that money on a player that is 33. In terms of Italian football, it’s a deal that makes sense,” he told Merkur.
“Given the crisis, they have gone through over the past few years. However, Bayern would have never done such a thing,” he continued.
At the same time, Rummenigge also blamed the clubs like Manchester City who broke the transfer fee inflation. The Bayern Munchen CEO showed how Real Madrid could do it without too much spending.
“City, PSG – they’ve always been the global inflaters. Not Real [Madrid], who have spent next to nothing in the past years,” said the former Bayern Munchen leader.
“Which is proof you don’t have to join the madness to win the Champions League,” Rummenigge continued.
