DBasia.news – The honorary president of Bayern Munich, Uli Hoeness, gave his analysis of Germany’s performance in the 2020 Cup. Not to forget, the legend also criticized the playing style of midfielder Toni Kroos.
Hoeness believes Kroos’ style of play is incompatible with modern football.
“I really like Kroos, he put in some world class and great performances at Bayern Munich, but his style of play is outdated,” said Hoeness.
“It has to be said that Kroos doesn’t fit into the modern game with his horizontal passing,” stated the former West Germany forward.
“The game is now played vertically. Players pick up the ball and carry it forward with speed.”
Hoeness also cites an example of Germany’s 2-0 defeat in front of England. “Then there was a terrible game against England. We were 1-0 down in the final 15 minutes and Kroos stopped when he crossed the halfway line,” he explained.
“The first two games were pretty good with four at the back. Then in the third game we started with three unnecessary defenders. Why? Joachim Low wanted to put Kroos on. Toni Kroos has no place in football today,” added Hoeness.
After Germany was eliminated from Euro 2020, Kroos announced the decision to retire from the national team. Kroos says his focus is now on his career at club level with Real Madrid.
“I’ve played 106 times for Germany. There won’t be another one,” stated Kroos.
