Before Enrique, Benitez Invited to Be the Coach of Spain National Team

By news-admin

DBasia.news – Newcastle United manager, Rafael Benitez, claimed the offer to lead the Spain national team. But the manager refused it because he wants to stay in The Magpies.

Spain national team made a surprising decision by firing Julen Lopetegui only a few days before the 2018 World Cup. At that time, the Real Federación Española de Fútbol (RFEF) criticized Lopetegui who moved to Real Madrid with no notice.

A few days later, RFEF asked Fernando Hierro to train Andres Iniesta and friends. But, La Furio Roja just reached the 16-group qualifications, defeated by Russia in a penalty shootout.

The result made RFEF won’t extend Hierro’s career. And then, Barcelona former coach, Luis Enrique was in two-year contract to led Spain.

“There was maybe a chance. But still I am here (in Newcastle) and I am happy to be here. There was a chance. There were rumors about that.” said Benitez to Soccerway.

However, Benitez still opened the opportunity to be Spain national team coach in the future.

“We will see. I still feel young, so I have plenty of time to do that,” said Benitez.

“Spain, I think, is a very good team and they will be better in the future,” said the Inter Milan coach.

Rafael Benitez started his career by training Real Madrid young team on July 1986. After that, the 58-year-old manager went to many clubs like Valencia, Liverpool, Chelsea, and Napoli.
