DBasia.news – Ben Chilwell is determined to match Ashley Cole’s success at Chelsea. Reportedly, he has even been given advice by Ashley Cole after joining the Blues.
Chilwell joined Chelsea in the transfer market this summer from Leicester City for 45 million pounds. Contracted for five years, the 23-year-old defender made his debut against Barnsley in the Premier League Cup on 23 September.
On his debut, Chilwell immediately recorded one assist in which Chelsea won 6-0. He is predicted to be Chelsea’s new mainstay at left-back position.
Chilwell has a personal ambition to follow in the footsteps of the success of Ashley Cole, who won the Premier League, FA Cup, English League Cup, Champions League and Europa League during his eight seasons with the Blues. He has spoken to Cole directly and received a quick tip.
“He said ‘Work hard’. It sounds cliché, but he said the fans here like players who work hard and fight tooth and nail for this shirt and give everything for the club,” said Chilwell as quoted by Metro.
“He said he wanted to win straight away for this club as soon as he joined and was happy to play for this club. And if I could follow that approach I would have a good career here,” he added.
Cole is considered to be one of the best defenders in Chelsea history. He was recruited from fellow London rivals Arsenal in the summer of 2006 and has been the top choice at left-back for seven consecutive seasons.
