Monza club owner Silvio Berlusconi says he wants his team to win the Italian league and then the Champions League after securing promotion to Serie A next season.
Monza ensured promotion to the top tier of Italian football next season after beating Pisa 4-3 (6-4) in the Serie B play-off final.
Monza became the third team to be promoted to Serie A next season, after previously Cremonese and Lecce confirmed this by being ranked 1st and 2nd in Serie B.
“Being in Serie A, we have to win the Scudetto and go to the Champions League and win it too. I’m used to winning all the time, so let’s see,” said Berlusconi.
The former Italian prime minister went on to say he thought Monza could be promoted to the Italian League last season, but they were unlucky.
Berlusconi explained, it was an extraordinary thing after 110 years of the club’s existence, Monza was finally able to be promoted to the highest caste of Italian football for the first time.
“We thought we would have succeeded last year, but we were unlucky. This time, we fought all season. It was not easy, but we did it and we are in Serie A,” explained Berlusconi.
“It’s incredible for a club like Monza, founded in 1912, to get promoted after 110 years. It’s amazing for all the citizens of Monza and Brianza,” he continued.
“This is one of the most diligent provinces in Italy, with more than 70,000 entrepreneurs. They are all very happy with what we have achieved,” he concluded.
