Bernd Leno Values Mikel Arteta Not the Cause of Arsenal’s Downturn

DBasia.news – Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta’s position is currently under threat. The Gunners goalkeeper, Bernd Leno, slumped the London team in the Premier League not because of Arteta’s distress.

Arsenal ended three successive defeats in the Premier League with a 1-1 draw at home to Southampton on Thursday (17/12). One additional point does not put Arsenal out of danger. Currently Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and his friends are in 15th position, only five points above the relegation zone.

“The coach is at least to blame for the fact that we are in this situation,” Leno told Sky Sports.

“If you look at the way we are running on the pitch then only the players are to blame.”

“We got red cards, made mistakes, stood out of position. These are things that we have dealt with clearly a thousand times. In the end, this is the lack of focus for the players,” said Leno.

“The coach is not a problem in the dressing room, there is no criticism of him. We criticize ourselves and the players know that they are responsible.”

Leno admits that a lack of discipline has also contributed to the problems at Arsenal and the players are determined to fix them.

Arsenal had to lose center-back Gabriel who was sent off for getting two yellow cartoons in the match against Southampton. Previously, Granit Xhaka was red carded when Arsenal lost 0-1 to Burnley.

“His attitude is not good, he lacks discipline and we are not confident. There are many factors at play here,” Leno tried to explain.

“We have discussed this internally clearly and everyone agrees that we have to change it quickly.”

Arsenal’s journey is still faced with difficult tests. At the weekend, the Gunners will travel to the headquarters of Everton, the club that currently sits in fifth place in the Premier League standings.
