DBasia.news – Sheffield United are the only Premier League promotion team to win points when Aston Villa and Norwich City lost. One point was won by Sheffield through Billy Sharp’s late goal.
Visiting Dean Court, Bournemouth headquarters, Sheffield was behind 0-1 via Chris Mepham’s goal on 62 minutes. Chris Wilder, Sheffield manager, had placed Sharp in place of Chris Basham on the 82 minutes. Six minutes later, Sharp scored a dramatic goal.
Sharp quickly reacted to scoring from close range when OIiver McBurnie’s strike was deflected by Nathan Ake. Believe it or not, it was his first goal in the Premier League. Sharp has played in the Premier League before, but he has never scored.
That record has added to his notch goals in four different football divisions in England. Sharp has scored in League Two, League One, Championship, and now the Premier League.
“Billy Sharp has now scored in League Two, League One, Championship and Premier League. Sharp scored with his first strike in the top division of football for his childhood club, not bad for the fat guy from Sheffield!” said @TheSportsman.
One point was achieved through hard work and team collectivity. Sheffield hasn’t spent on a lot of players this summer like Villa and Norwich, however, they have the classic spirit of English football clubs. Sharp represents that.
“I want to play and help the club. We put a lot of players in the penalty box (Bournemouth), able to create something and I’m lucky to be able to end it with a goal,” Sharp stated.
“That’s what I dreamed about last night and this is a proud moment for me and my family. I am very proud of them, they are very great. These are great points, we play well and deserve something from this fight.”
Sharp’s life is entirely dedicated to the Blades. The Sheffield academy product of 2004 had played for Sheffield for three periods, and also strengthened other teams such as Doncaster Rovers, Nottingham Forest and Reading.
The Premier League has often been a friendly league for aging strikers like Glenn Murray. Billy Sharp can add to that list this season as long as he can maintain consistency in playing.
