Blackburn Failed to Bring Robert Lewandowski Due to Mount Eruption

DBasia.news – Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski has just been named the 2020 FIFA Player of the Year. It turns out that the star is one more step away from joining Blackburn Rovers.

The story happened when Lewandowski was still in the uniform of the Polish club Lech Poznan in 2010. Blackburn was currently on the hunt for an attacker and was interested in the Polish player’s 21 goals in 34 matches.

An agreement between Blackburn and Lewandowski has been reached. Lewandowski will be brought in for a transfer value of four million pounds, equivalent to Rp.76 billion.

“We have seen a lot about Robert Lewandowski and we know we are dealing with a top striker,” recalled Martyn Glover, who is now Head of Recruitment at Southampton, quoted by Sky Sports.

Preparations have been made, but Lewandowski had to be stuck at the airport and unable to fly due to the eruption of Mount Eyjafjallajokull in Iceland. The disaster kept Europe covered in volcanic ash for one week.

“I couldn’t fly to Blackburn because of the volcano. But I wanted to go there just to see what the club was like. I didn’t know where I was going because if I traveled there I would know which club was the best for me,” said Lewandowski.

In the end, Lewandowski failed to strengthen Blackburn and joined Borussia Dortmund, before finally strengthening Bayern until now.
