DBasia.news – French midfielder, Blaise Matuidi officially ended his contract with Juventus and joined David Beckham’s US League club, Inter Miami. Matuidi left the Bianconeri despite having one year left on his contract.
“Blaise is one of the most successful midfielders of his generation, and we are delighted to have signed him for Inter Miami. His world class quality and leadership will be key attributes for the club,” said Inter Miami sporting director, Paul McDonough.
Matuidi spent three seasons at Juventus after being signed from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), where he played with Beckham. During his time with the Bianconeri, he won the league title every season and proved to be an important part of the Old Lady’s squad.
In all, he has made 133 appearances for Juventus. Matuidi also led his team to win the Coppa Italian Cup and Italian Super Cup, and helped the French national team win the 2018 World Cup.
During his time at Juventus, Paulo Dybala was the only player with more appearances than him for the Turin club. 33-year-old Matuidi has made 45 appearances for Juventus in the 2019/2020 season, and Inter Miami will hope that the arrival of the new player will have a significant impact on their play.
Inter Miami have lost six of the six league games played since joining the competition at the start of the season. Beckham warmly welcomed the arrival of his former teammate.
“I am very excited to welcome my partner Blaise to Inter Miami. He is a great player and talent and a good figure,” he stated
“Having a World Cup winner with Matuidi’s qualities in our new team is a proud moment, for us owners and for the fans. For me personally, having a former team-mate join our club is something very special, and I can’t wait. To welcome him and his family to South Florida, “Beckham continued.
Inter Miami has the chance to play Matuidi in their inaugural match at home, the Inter Miami CF Stadium on August 22. They have confirmed that Matuidi will wear the number eight jersey.
