Brazil resigns from the 2023 Women’s World Cup Host Candidate due to the Corona Virus

DBasia.news – Brazil chose to resign after previously becoming a candidate to host the Women’s World Cup in 2023. This was done two weeks before FIFA announced the host of the tournament.

The Brazilian Football Federation (CBF) revealed they resigned as the government was not willing to sign the guarantees needed to hold a tournament related to Covid-19.

After deciding to resign, Brazil is now turning their support to Colombia to host the tournament. Colombia still has to compete with Japan and Australia-New Zealand who also volunteered.

The absence of government guarantees is closely related to economic and fiscal austerity policies in connection with the corona virus pandemic.

“Given that this is an extraordinary time experienced by the country and the world, CBF understands the position of the Brazilian government, and other public and private partners, which prevents them from formalizing commitments within the timeframe needed,” the CBF statement said.

Announcement of who will host the 2023 Women’s World Cup will be submitted by FIFA on June 25.
