Brighton’s Victory Adds to Arsenal’s Record of Defeat

DBasia.news –  Arsenal’s bad period continued when they suffered a 1-2 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion, in the matchday 15 of the Premier League at the Emirates Stadium, Friday (6/12) AM.

Arsenal surprisingly lost 1-2 through two goals by Adam Webster (36 ‘) and Neal Maupay (80’) who reduced goals by Alexandre Lacazette in the 50th minute. As a result, Arsenal were without a win in nine consecutive matches in all competitions.

It was Arsenal’s worst period since March 1977 or 42 years ago. The change of manager from Unai Emery, who was dismissed, to Freddie Ljungberg was unable to lift Arsenal’s performance.

Arsenal are now in 10th place of the Premier League standings with 19 points. Arsenal’s position is closer to the relegation zone, five points from Everton, compared to Chelsea who are in the top four Premier League (Champions League zone) by 10 points.

“We have to win immediately to gain confidence. It’s clear the tension between supporters affects players. They are only human, they want to look good and feel pressure. But we have to win and we have shown in the second half we were able to score one goal,” Ljungberg said after the game ended.

The defeat is getting worse as Graham Potter and his players has made the Emirates stadium like their turf. That can be seen from Arsenal’s record who lost control of the ball, 49 percent, compared to 51 percent of Brighton.

Arsenal released 12 kicks and five of them were on target, while Brighton released 20 kicks – nine of them on target.

“I am thrilled (Brighton won). This is a great feeling. We have gone through three difficult games and have not won points, so this is a feeling of comfort,” Potter added at Brighton and Hove’s Independent.
