Bruno Fernandes, A Player Who Started His Career As A Defensive Player
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes recounts the beginning of his career moving from center-back to attacking midfielder. Fernandes revealed that he played quite well in the defense area.
Bruno Fernandes became the motor for Manchester United’s attack. So far, the Portuguese player has appeared in 33 matches with a record 18 goals.
However, before becoming a creative and sharp midfielder, Bruno Fernandes played as a defender when he started his career at an amateur club. Although uncomfortable, but the assessment for him was positive.
“I appeared as a defender when I started playing football. I played as a center-back or right-back,” Fernandes told UTD Podcast.
“I am very good and have a coach who says, ‘if you want to be a great player you have to appear at center-back. If you want to be a good player, you will be a midfielder’.
“I think he was wrong. However, maybe as a center back I could be much better. At that time, I didn’t like playing as a defender, but people said I was doing well. They said I was good at closing both sides,” continued Fernandes.
“The coach looks at the list of players. Then, because there are some who are still on holiday we don’t have an attacker. I also volunteered as a striker.”
“I scored two goals and the coach said I could be a striker. Then, in the second match I played like a false nine. After that, I was number 10 or number 8.”
Manchester United have spent up to 55 million euros to bring in Bruno Fernandes from Sporting CP earlier this year. This value can increase because a number of bonuses are tucked away.
