Bruno Fernandes Cannot Be Compared with Eric Cantona

DBasia.news – Manchester United midfielder, Bruno Fernandes is considered to be the figure behind the rise of Manchester United. The Portuguese player was even compared with the legend of the Red Devils, Eric Cantona. However, the MU legend, Roy Keane, denied this.

According to Keane, Bruno Fernandes still has more to do in big matches. This was conveyed by Keane after the Red Devils were defeated by Manchester City in the semifinals of the English League Cup on Thursday (7/1) WIB.

Playing as host at Old Trafford, United surrendered 0-2. These results brought Manchester City for the fourth consecutive time to qualify for the finals and have the opportunity to win a quat-trick in this event.

Fernandes immediately made a neat impression when he joined from Sporting Lisbon last year with 27 goals and 17 assists. His influence on the team’s performance has also made Fernandes be compared with Eric Cantona who helped end his 26 year wait for the league title in 1993.

“It is not easy to win a football trophy. Fernandes has received praise over the last few months and people have compared him to Cantona. He didn’t do much tonight,” Keane told Sky Sports.

“Top players appear at big moments. That’s what players like Cantona do, they get trophies. That’s where this team lacks.”

United have now lost four times in the semifinals of their last Cup tournament and Keane thinks they need fresh blood to take the next step.

“They may need one or two more players to enter this team, of course, and they need the mentality and confidence to win the semifinals so they can push the boundaries,” added Keane.
