Bruno Fernandes failed to score a penalty for Manchester United, this is his statement

DBasia.news – Manchester United (MU) had a goal feast at Newcastle United in the fifth week of the Premier League at St’s Stadium. James’ Park, Sunday morning, WIB (18/10/2020). The Red Devils won 4-1. But they also failed to execute a penalty given by the referee.

The moment occurred in the 58th minute when the position was still 1-1. Newcastle goalkeeper, Karl Darlow was able to perfectly anticipate Fernandes’ kick.

It is normal to fail to execute a penalty. But this does not apply to Fernandes.

The Portuguese midfielder is known as the king of penalties. Before meeting Newcastle, his execution from a distance of 11 meters was only able to be thwarted twice.

The last time his penalty execution failed was on October 20, 2018. At that time, Bruno, who was still defending Sporting Lisbon, failed to beat Loures goalkeeper, Miguel Soares in the Portuguese Cup.

That means, Fernandes has not missed a penalty in almost two years. A record that discourages all goalkeepers when faced with this situation.

However, this classy record had to stop in Darlow’s hands. Reputably, the 30-year-old goalkeeper has not shined.

Interestingly, Fernandes uses a slightly different technique when dealing with Darlow. He didn’t make his trademark jump before kicking a ball that outwitted many world-class goalkeepers.

Regarding this, Fernandes has his own reasons. However, he did not underestimate Darlow’s abilities.

“I’ve changed (penalty technique) before but today it didn’t work. This time it was not the right choice but it doesn’t matter,” Fernandes told the BBC.

“I wanted to put the ball more into the corner but that’s not good enough. Congratulations to him (Darlow) on being the first to save my penalty in the Premier League.”

Now people can say I can miss a penalty. But I have to keep improving in the next game, “he added.

It was the first of 11 penalties Fernandes missed with Manchester United. A record that is still very impressive for a penalty executor.
