DBasia.news – Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has indicated that he will ban his flagship player Bruno Fernandes from defending the Portuguese national team at the international break at the end of March.
According to the corona virus protocol established by the British Government, Fernandes will be quarantined for 10 days if he strengthens the Portuguese national team and returns to England. That means Fernandes will miss two key MU matches.
Solskjaer also indicated that he would ban Fernandes and other MU players from defending the national team in countries that were on the red list of Covid-19.
“We didn’t sit down and make the right decisions for that, but it doesn’t make sense if you lose your player for 10 days of isolation, of course not,” said Solskjaer after the match against Crystal Palace as quoted from Goal.
“We pay the players and from what I understand FIFA has given the rule that they should not be released.”
“So I think it will be a tough decision to let them go and play in the red list countries.”
“I want Bruno of course, to be ready against Brighton and hopefully we can go through in Europe and against Tottenham after the break, of course I do,” he stated.
A match that could potentially be missed by Bruno Fernandes
The Portuguese national team which is directed by Fernando Santos will face Azerbaijan and Serbia on March 25 and 27, 2021. If Fernandes finally joins Cristiano Ronaldo and his team there will be two matches that he will miss.
The two matches are against Brighton & Hove Albion on April 3, 2021 and Tottenham Hotspur on April 10, 2021. These matches determine MU’s chance to compete for the Premier League title or maintain a place in the Champions League zone.
Bruno Fernandes (26 years old) has become an important part of MU since joining from Sporting Lisbon in January 2020. This season alone Fernandes has appeared 40 times in all competitions, scoring 22 goals and providing 13 assists.
