Cameroon National Team secures the third place in the 2021 African Cup of Nations

DBasia.news – Cameroon’s national team successfully won a consolation title at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations after securing third place. This result was obtained after Antonio Conceicao’s team defeated Burkina Faso.

In the match which took place at Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo, Sunday (6/2) morning WIB, the two teams drew 3-3 until normal time ended. Cameroon then sealed victory on penalties.

Cameroon’s duel against Burkina Faso does indeed present a quality drama. How come? the hosts of the tournament must be three goals behind.

Burkina Faso closed the first half with a 2-0 advantage. Steeve Yago’s goals (24′) and Andre Onana’s own (43′) made the difference between the two teams.

Burkina Faso moved further away after Djibril Ouattara scored the third goal early in the second half. The home fans who filled the stadium were made to believe this scene.

But Cameroon showed a winning mentality and fighting spirit. Within 20 minutes, The Indomitable Lions were able to equalize.

Cameroon’s three goals in a row were scored by Stephane Bahoken (71′) and Vincent Aboubakar (85′ and 87′). The match then went straight to the penalty shootout.

In the high-fives round, Cameroon’s five strikers  did their job well. Meanwhile, Ibrahim Blati Toure was the only Burkina Faso executioner who failed.

The penalty shootout ended with the score 5-3 for the hosts. Cameroon has won the third place in the African Cup of Nations for the second time.
