Chelsea Boss Is Proud of Edouard Mendy’s Performance against Tottenham

DBasia.news – Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel praised Edouard Mendy for his role in the 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur on Friday (5/2).

The Blues are unbeaten since the German manager’s arrival at Stamford Bridge, winning two of their three games under him without conceding a single goal.

Jorginho’s penalty in the first half was enough to secure all three points against Jose Mourinho’s side, taking Chelsea back to sixth and four points adrift of fourth place Liverpool.

That certainly makes Thomas Tuchel proud of his side’s defensive performances and how they continue to build up attacks from behind, but he paid special credit to Edouard Mendy at the crossbar.

“We played very strong in building the game with three defenders who played with confidence,” said Tuchel.

“Don’t forget today about Mendy, he was amazing with the ball at his feet, he opened up some situations for us when we were under pressure, he had a great game of building attack.”

Andreas Christensen came on in the second half, replacing Thiago Silva after the Brazilian had to leave with a suspected hamstring injury.

It was his sixth league appearance this season for Christensen, and Tuchel said he was pleased with what he saw.

He added, “And as I said, the three defenders, also with Andreas coming in in a difficult situation, they are excellent at building up.”

“Mateo Kovacic and Jorginho, they played very well together and it’s difficult to press us on the pitch because we have quality and confidence.”
