DBasia.news – Ahead of the winter transfer market which opens in January 2021, European clubs have begun to prepare a transfer strategy, whether it is selling or bringing in new players. Chelsea is one of the teams that has prepared well.
The Blues are quite active in recruiting new players in the summer of 2020 so that the quantity of their squad is piling up. Frank Lampard has a plump squad in every line.
After bringing in players from Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Kai Havertz, Ben Chilwell, Thiago Silva, to Edouard Mendy, it was understandable that Chelsea wanted to balance their squad quantity and finances by releasing several players.
As reported by Sky Sports, Chelsea will release seven players in January 2021. They are Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen, Jorginho, Marcos Alonso, Ross Barkley, Danny Drinkwater, and Victor Moses.
The last three names are currently on loan to other clubs. Barkley and Drinkwater are loaned to Aston Villa, Moses loaned to Spartak Moscow. The three of them were not included in Frank Lampard’s long-term plans at Chelsea.
Christensen and Rudiger were also rarely played by Lampard in the heart of the defense who prefered the duo of Thiago Silva and Kurt Zouma overlaid with Fikayo Tomori. Meanwhile, Jorginho was rumored to have left from the start after Maurizio Sarri left.
Rudigers was originally targeted by PSG (Paris Saint-Germain) when he was still being coached by Thomas Tuchel. Now Tuchel has been dismissed and it is still unknown whether PSG is still targeting the former AS Roma player or not.
If Chelsea’s overhaul plans go well, they can try to recruit targeted names such as Erling Haaland (Borussia Dortmund) and Declan Rice (West Ham United). Rice has been targeted by Chelsea since last summer plus he is a former Chelsea academy alumnus.
