DBasia.news – FIFA, the World Football Federation, is still punishing Chelsea with a two-period player transfer ban regarding the recruitment of underage players.
The Blues were supposed to have filed a lawsuit with FIFA in the hope that the penalty would be suspended and the club had time to prepare to recruit new players. However, Chelsea would allegedly also resign if the sentence could not be suspended.
This can be seen from the contract extension given by Chelsea to Olivier Giroud. Chelsea, according to reports from the official Chelsea website, have activated the option of Giroud’s contract extension for the season for the 2019-20 season.
The 32-year-old striker has joined from January 2018 and scored 17 goals in 62 appearances. This season, despite rarely playing, Giroud became Chelsea’s top scorer in the Europa League with a record of 10 goals in 11 appearances.
“I am very happy to sign a new contract. I really want to stay at least another season – I have felt part of the team, family, from the start and hopefully there will be many trophies to come,” hoped Giroud.
Marina Granovskaia, Director of Chelsea, is also pleased that the club can extend the term of service for the 2018 World Cup. Despite not playing much, Giroud has an important contribution in Maurizio Sarri’s direction.
“We are very pleased that Olivier will be a Chelsea player for the following season. Since coming 18 months ago, he has had some time to be patient and look forward to opportunities, but can still make a positive contribution to the team,” added Granovskaia.
At least, Chelsea have secured the services of one striker for next season. As Gonzalo Higuain is still on loan from Juventus and Chelse a has a difficulty in making him permanent if sentenced to a transfer embargo by FIFA
