DBasia.news – Chelsea are reportedly willing to lower the cost of borrowing so that their most expensive player, Romelu Lukaku, can return to defend his former team, Inter Milan.
The player, who was recruited by the Blues for £100 million, urged him to leave Stamford Bridge through his new lawyer, Sebastien Ledure.
After initially asking for a loan fee of €25 million, Chelsea are now willing to discount it to just €12 million, with Inter’s latest offer worth €7 million.
Lukaku is pressing for a transfer despite Chelsea’s senior officials trying to convince a player who has lost faith in his west London environment.
Also, there are doubts whether Thomas Tuchel is the right manager to make the most of the Belgian striker, who has spent much of 2022 on the bench.
Chelsea’s new owner group, backed by Clearlake Capital and led by Todd Boehly, have not significantly impacted the situation with many of the old regime names still controlling the Blues’ operations.
However, there is a message to fulfill Tuchel’s request even if it will be expensive.
Having just signed Lukaku a year ago, Chelsea will lose massively considering the cost of the loan will not cover the annual installment costs after bringing him in last summer.
Petr Cech states that Lukaku still has a future at Chelsea.
“Personally, I believe Romelu Lukaku will have a great season,” the technical director and performance advisor and former Chelsea goalkeeper told Sky Sports News.
“Last season we saw how strong he was when he arrived. Unfortunately, the long-term injury he suffered against Aston Villa slowed things down, then Covid-19 too.”
“We can see at the end of the season when Romelu Lukaku is fit and ready to play, how strong he is. Our season was a bit unique with the Covid-19 issue around Christmas. He was one of the affected.”
“I’m completely confident Romelu Lukaku will come back and have a strong season.”
However, behind the scenes, Chelsea have accepted their loss by letting him go.
