Chiellini Praised Suarez Regarding His Bite at the 2014 World Cup

DBasia.news – Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini has an interesting view regarding the bite action carried out by Luis Suarez against him at the 2014 World Cup. Instead of being angry, the 35-year-old defender actually praised the Barcelona striker’s actions.
The incident occurred when Uruguay met Italy in the final match of Group D. The match took place in high tension because both teams must win to qualify for the knockout phase.
This situation makes the players of both teams appear under pressure. That also seems to be Suarez’s background biting Chiellini’s shoulder in the 79th minute.
“I guarded (Edinson) Cavani for most of the game. Suddenly I realized that I was bitten on the shoulder (by Suarez) and it just happened,” Chiellini said in his book ‘Io, Giorgio’, as quoted from Sky Sports.
But Chiellini considers what Suarez did was just a trick. Only quality attackers do that.
Do not stop there, Chiellini was also very admiring Suarez. Facing an attacker with many tricks like that indirectly hones his defensive abilities.
“I admire his ingenuity. If he loses (the nature), he will become a mediocre attacker,” he added.
“He and I are similar and I like escorting strikers like him.”
Suarez’s bite did not escape the eyes of the referee and his assistant. But FIFA later handed down nine international matches and fines to the Barcelona striker.
In the match, Italy finally lost 0-1 so they had to be eliminated. Ironically, Uruguay’s winning goal scored by Diego Godin was created shortly after the Suarez bite incident.
