Choosing Sevilla, Martial rejects Juventus and Barcelona

DBasia.news – Manchester United loanee, Anthony Martial has revealed he turned down Barcelona and Juventus during the transfer window last month.

The French forward has instead signed for La Liga title challengers Sevilla on a season-long loan.

“That’s true. Juventus tried to sign me,” Martial told Diario de Sevilla.

“I was talking to my agent and told him that I would prefer to go to Sevilla. It was the best choice for me and my family. FC Barcelona spoke to my agent.”

“But as I said, I spoke to my agent and told him: ‘My priority is Sevilla’. And when I say something to someone, I don’t change it, I keep my word.”

“Both Sevilla and I have tried to get me to come. I have less salary, but I also know that paying my salary is an effort for the club. So we both have tried. But I know that this effort will be good for both parties.”

“For me, it was the right decision because I knew I was going to play and for me playing is the most important thing.”

“Other big clubs tried to convince me, but I preferred Sevilla because I know Sevilla is a great club. For me, it was the right decision,” said the former Monaco player.

Martial already made his debut when Sevilla drew 0-0 against Osasuna. Julen Lopetegui expects more from Martial, who he admits has not performed optimally as he has rarely played this season.

“Obviously he has to give us more. It was his first game, it wasn’t easy to adapt,” Lopetegui added of Martial.

“He comes with a bit of a burden because he hasn’t played much this season.”
