DBasia.news – Nkunku twisted his legs when he challenged Eduardo Camavinga to win the ball during a training session. The RB Leipzig forward immediately signaled that he was in pain and left the training pitch to receive treatment. France have since confirmed that the injury will prevent him from taking part in the tournament in Qatar.
The news is a huge blow for Les Bleus, who previously confirmed Paul Pogba, N’Golo Kante and Presnel Kimpembe will miss Qatar. Nkunku has also been in excellent form for Leipzig this season, scoring 12 goals in 15 German Bundesliga appearances.
“Injured in training, Christopher Nkunku had to give up his bid to participate in the World Cup. The whole group shares Christopher’s grief and wishes him a speedy recovery,” the national team wrote in a statement.
France are allowed to call up replacements for Nkunku before their first game against Australia on November 22. Eintracht Frankfurt striker Randal Kolo Muani would most likely get the call-up.
