The match which took place at Old Trafford, Saturday (24/10), had to end in a draw with a score of 0-0. However, Chelsea was more pressured throughout the match.
Manchester United had a number of golden opportunities to score goals. Four kicks from the Red Devils players also met the target.
However, Mendy’s skill was unable to get any balls enter the net. He at least made a brilliant and miraculous save.
One of Manchester United’s best chances came in the last minutes through Marcus Rashford shot. However Mendy was able to ward off the ball.
Chelsea manager, Frank Lampard did not hesitate to praise Mendy’s performance. He feels the goalkeeper has proven himself worthy of competing in the Premier League.
“His performance was great. He showed what he was there for,” said Lampard after the match.
“We signed him because of his quality and he’s shown great composure in the games he’s played. I’m happy with his save because in a tight match you rely on that.”
Mendy’s slick appearance seemed to be the answer to Lampard’s trust, who appointed him as Chelsea’s main goalkeeper this season. He managed to win the competition with Kepa Arrizabalaga.
Mendy has recorded three clean sheets from the four matches he has played with Chelsea. Two of them occurred in the Premier League.
This has brought Mendy closer to the record for Chelsea legend and current teammate, Petr Cech. The Czech Republic goalkeeper was able to keep a clean sheet in his first three Premier League matches 16 years ago.
