Atletico will do salary deductions from the 500 employees they have. Including players, coaching staff, officials, and medical teams from various categories of teams they have.
The certainty of salary cuts was conveyed by Los Rojiblancos CEO Miguel Angel Gil Marin in an open letter to Atletico’s stakeholders. In the letter Gil Marin said that the salary cuts had to be done in order to save the future of the club financially.
This salary deduction policy has previously been applied by Barcelona. Even though had got resistance from players, Azulgrana’s management still decided to activate the ERTE scheme, which made all of their employees will be affected by salary cuts.
ERTE is a policy of the Spanish government that can be used by all institutions in an emergency. This policy allows each institution to cut their employees’ salaries during critical times.
In addition to Barcelona and Atletico, Espanyol has also implemented a salary deduction policy for all its employees. In an official statement, Espanyol said that each employee would only receive payment of 30% of the contract value during the COVID-19 crisis period.
