DBasia.news – Watford striker Troy Deeney admitted he was sorry for Liverpool because their move to win the title this season had to be detained due to the COVID-19 pandemic. According to Deeney, if the Reds squad won the title, their integrity would be damaged because of a pandemic that has attacked various countries in the recent months.
The Reds are 25 points ahead of Manchester City and only need two more wins to claim The Premiere League title. However, the competition was stopped last March because of this deadly outbreak.
Discussions about the potential for the Premiere League to be rolled out continue to be discussed, with the clubs agreeing to return to training last Wednesday.
However, the completion of this season seems to be going on with a different situation, even there is also the possibility to permanently stop the competition prematurely.
Deeney rate, any results that will be received by Liverpool this season will feel unfair. The Merseyside club has actually been waiting to claim their first league title in 30 years.
“I believe, when referring to integrity in this season, it has been lost,” Deeney told CNN.
“I feel sorry for Liverpool, because no matter what the outcome is, they deserve to win the league title. They deserve a trophy,” he said.
“No matter what the outcome is, even if we play all the league matches, it still feels like a year ravaged by a pandemic. It will be a year where Liverpool win the league not as the best team. 30 years they have never won a league title again,” Deeney explained.
“So, I really feel sorry for Liverpool and the players, also for [Jordan] Henderson. But in terms of integrity, it is impossible for you to say that this is a worthy competition [in the midst of a pandemic],” he said.
Premiere League clubs have resumed training in small groups. Deeney did not want to attend because she was worried about her five-month-old child, who was having difficulty breathing.
Deeney admitted he received criticism on social media for his decision, but several other players also shared his thoughts. Players like Danny Rose, N’Golo Kante and Sergio Aguero are also worried that the Premiere League will resume.
“Personally, I just think, this all shows me that the players have so much power if they really want to unite,” Deeney continued.
“I have many messages of support from people that I don’t even know about. But of course from the players in big clubs and it shows me that I have to do something right because I’m just Troy from Watford and people seem to listen to what I say,” he concluded.
