DBasia.news – Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made a defense for David De Gea who received sharp criticism from The Red Devils legend, Roy Keane. Solskjaer said De Gea is the best goalkeeper in the world at the moment.
De Gea received strong criticism when Manchester United drew 1-1 at the Premiere League on Saturday (6/20) against Tottenham by former United captain Roy Keane, who currently works as a television pandit.
However, Solskjaer defended De Gea from his former team-mate at United.
“I do not feel it is a bad record when you only conceded two goals in seven matches, which included matches against Man City, Chelsea, Tottenham and Everton. Everton’s goal was quite unusual,” Solskjaer told the BBC on Tuesday (6/23).
Keane said on Saturday that he was “very frustrated” with De Gea, arguing that the goalkeeper should have saved a shot from Steven Bergwijn that put Tottenham ahead in the first half.
“On Friday (local time) he might be able to save him, he might not be able to. However, he made a number of great saves for us. He won the match for us. I still think he is the best goalkeeper in the world.”
Together with the Spanish national team, De Gea’s position is also threatened by being seized by Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga. Whereas with the Red Devils, he will experience the same thing because of the brilliant performance of goalkeeper Dean Henderson who is currently on loan at Sheffield United.
Henderson himself will not play against United on Thursday (25/6) because Premiere League regulations prohibit a loan player playing against his parent club.
Even so Solskjaer was pleased with Henderson’s progress, saying that he had a fantastic season and would one day be the number one goalkeeper for England and United.
