Dare to Try Serie A, Tammy Abraham’s Mentality Is Unquestionable

DBasia.news – AS Roma did not take long to get a replacement for Edin Dzeko who went to Inter Milan. The domino effect of Romelu Lukaku’s departure to Chelsea led Inter to sign Dzeko, then Dzeko’s place at Roma was replaced by another striker.

After recruiting Eldor Shomurudov Roma brought Tammy Abraham from Chelsea. Now Jose Mourinho has three attackers along with Borja Mayoral. Roma brought Abraham for a total fee of 40 million euros: five million euros paid at this time and the rest in installments.

The 23-year-old forward is on a five-year contract and his decision to move to Roma was bold, because while Abraham needs the playing time he didn’t get at Chelsea, it’s rare for an English player to have the courage to play abroad.

No doubt Abraham’s mentality was admired by Mourinho. The coach saw Abraham’s ambition to develop, succeed and play at the highest level until he was called up to the England national team.

“I prefer to say wait and see Tammy, but I say that with a lot of confidence. I’ve known him since he was a kid. He never played for me, because he was 14, 15, 16 when I was at Chelsea but I know him very well,” said Mourinho in Football-Italy.

“I know him as a player, personally and in terms of mentality. It’s always difficult for an English player to leave his country and the Premier League and that says so much about him.”

“If you leave the Premier League, it’s because you are ambitious, because you want to return to your national team, because you want to play in the World Cup and win outside England, where not many English players have had brilliant careers.”

Mourinho doesn’t have a forward line with experienced players like Cristiano Ronaldo at Juventus, or Olivier Giroud and Zlatan Ibrahimovic at Milan, but he is happy with the potential.

“He (Abraham) came here with that ambition and we hope to see his best qualities as a player. With Tammy, Eldor Shomurudov and Borja Mayoral, we have an attacking option which I really like,” added Mourinho.

“We don’t have the experience you might see at Juventus with Cristiano Ronaldo, at Milan with Olivier Giroud and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, considering they are all established, but in terms of potential I couldn’t be happier with the players we have.

Roma deserves to fight for the title

With the inclusion of Mourinho, a coach with many trophies won in the past, Abraham sees no reason why Roma don’t deserve to be fighting for trophies. Roma last won Serie A in 2001.

“You can feel when a club really wants you – and Roma immediately expressed their interest,” Abraham added to Roma’s official website.

“Roma is a club that deserves to fight for titles and trophies. I have experience winning major trophies and I want to be in that competition again – so I want to help this team achieve that and get to the level where Roma should be.”

“It’s a great honor to be the No. 9 at this club and I can’t wait to get started and help the team.”
