Darwin Nunez A mix of Cavani and Suarez

DBasia.news – Former coach at Uruguayan club Penarol, Leonardo Ramos, says Benfica star Darwin Nunez is a mix between two Uruguayan stars, Edinson Cavani and Luis Suarez.

Nunez has been linked with a transfer saga to Liverpool or Manchester United this summer for a transfer fee of up to €100 million [£85 million].

The 22-year-old striker has been shining for Benfica in the 2021/22 season. He scored 34 goals in 41 matches across competitions.

“Everyone keeps comparing him to Cavani,” said Ramos.

“They have a similar style of play. For me, Darwin is faster and stronger than Cavani. Cavani, maybe now he is a more experienced player and knows when to press, when to attack, when to withdraw, when to work with his team-mates.”

“Today, to me, Darwin looked a lot more explosive, but other than that, he has clearly shown incredible goal-scoring abilities.”

“This is the same goal-scoring ability we saw in Uruguay when he played for Penarol scoring a lot of goals there. If you ask me about a player who looks a lot like him, I will answer Cavani.”

When asked if Nunez also had anything in common with former Liverpool and Barcelona star Suarez, Ramos replied:

“I think he has two halves, it’s half and half,” said Ramos.

“He has the strength of Suarez, to duel, to be a fighter. He also has a part of Cavani, being a much more athletic, stronger, smarter player and I think he is a mix of those things.”

“Let’s see, Darwin is still very young, he still has a lot to learn. This is not to discredit the Portuguese League, but [he will be judged] when he plays in Spain or Italy. England is a place where he will definitely need more characteristics and strengths to do much better.”
