Dayot Upamecano Admits Bayern Munich Has Played with Three Defenders This Season

DBasia.news – The new Bayern Munich defender, Dayot Upamecano has finally acknowledged what many Bavarian fans have felt, where the club that resides in the Allianz Arena does play with a three-back formation.

Previously, Bayern Munich fans began to be suspicious of Julian Nagelsmann’s formation, with the former RB Leipzig architect looking inclined to ask Alphonso Davies to operate as a full-back in attack and then return to left-back in defence, prompting Leroy Sane to play more centrally as an attacking midfielder with Thomas Müller.

While on the opposite flank, Serge Gnabry was forced to play deeper like a full-back by taking on less responsibility in defense, while still operating in midfield in attack.

“The coach reproduces many of his tactics from Leipzig’s time at Bayern in a better way. So it’s easier for me (to integrate),” said Dayot Upamecano adapted from the Bavarian Football Works website.

“We mostly played with a back three under Julian Nagelsmann, but the system varied a lot. With him, we can also adapt. It all depends on how the opponent will play.”

This unique formation also proved to be effective, after Bayern Munich was confirmed to have qualified for the last 16 of the European Champions League and for a while they were also top of the Bundesliga standings this season.
